Looking for an excuse to get out of the house while following social distancing guidelines? If you enjoy kayaking and geocaching, our friends at Go Kayak Texas might have an answer for you.
For those unfamiliar with geocaching, it’s like treasure-hunting in real life. An item (or “cache”) is hidden somewhere in the world and participants try to find it based on clues and other information.
To register for the GKT GeoChallenge, participants must make a minimum $10 donation to Float2Fly. Once registered, they will receive a series of clues to lead them toward the hidden cache. The first participant to discover the cache will receive a prize package related to kayaking.
Per the Harris County Stay Home, Work Safe Order, “essential activities” includes engaging in outdoor activity, while keeping social distancing (source). While the nature of this activity promotes isolation, it extends beyond the boundaries of Harris County. Therefore, we ask everyone to verify they understand and follow local guidelines related to COVID-19 at all times.
For more information about the GKT GeoChallenge, please see their website. And of course, if you plan on kayaking, always wear a lifejacket (in fact, GKT has a great safety page).
